Fiat Roosevelt "Libre" Wheels
"Backyard Style"
Reproduction bolts
and wheel caps now available
In response to some interest
in the community, (and let's face it, I need a set), I've gone
ahead and commissioned a set of bolts and caps for my needs.
The shop will take additional orders until they run the first
set. Due to the small batch of items, there is no price break
until we get to 200 pieces, and I don't think that is going to
happen. I'm going to pay the setup fees out of my pocket and
put additional ones up for sale at cost plus shipping.
The caps will be made to the exact
dimensions of the factory cap,
except instead of being made out of cheap chromeplated plastic,
they will be made out of cheap polished T-3 aircraft grade
aluminum bar stock. Except for the decal they will be identical
in every outward dimension to the factory cap including the concentric
rings on the top. The flat land will be polished aluminum. You
can easily put a decal of your choice there. These caps will
fit both the F/R and ARE Libre wheels perfectly. I have both
types of wheels here. So if you have some lameo Nissan, showerknob,
etc. cap on your wheels presently and have always wanted the
"original" style cap, here's your chance.
The above picture is of a brand
new never mounted cap that is being used as the pattern for the
machined cap. It will be identical in every way, except the chromeplating.
The polished aluminum is much more desirable and will withstand
abuse much better than any plastic cap. If you have a set of
these wheels, you know the caps are in poor shape if you are
even lucky enough to still have a couple. Chris Obert was selling
caps in fair to poor condition for $25 last year and no longer
has any. As far as I know, he was the last one to have some,
and now they are gone.
I've contracted with the shop to produce
these for $47 each (only in sets of four) plus shipping. This
is a great price for "custom" machine work, and is
only a little more than the beat to death prices of used caps.
The only thing you will have to add is the center "decal".
I'm currently working on reproducing the exact artwork, but you
might want to put one of the many resin stick-ons that are currently
available on the market. There is an example on my "Restoration"
page of the black one that Bruce's Parts Bin sells for $5 each.
There is some additional information
about the wheel bolts on my Wheel Bolt Article Page. You can
see the original bolt on the bottom of the picture on the right.
The reproduction is pretty darn close.
The shop will turn down your
bolts for $4.00 each in sets of 8. You can provide the bolts
yourself, or I can get them locally for you to match the picture
below. You can pick up the 12X1.25 studs at your local Pep Boys,
AutoZone etc.
I hope this helps all of you
out there with your Fiat Roosevelt wheels. After I'm done with
mine, I'll move on to something else. I'm not in business or
anything like that.
Sadly, if these caps were to
fit a Ferrari, they would cost no more or no less. It's just
as expensive to restore a cheap car as an expensive one when
it comes to custom parts. Once again, there is no profit in this
for me. I'm just throwing your order in with mine, and I'll pick
them all up at the same time and box them up and ship them out
to you for postage only. I can take a check or PayPal. email
me with your needs or questions.
